Interview with Hood Kings about their album Full Metal Alchemists 2

For the new fans or people who don´t know you guys. Could you guys be so kind for a quick introduction?

Supreme: What's good, I'm Supreme The Truth, and with Bundy we make up Hood Kings. I'm an emcee and I make a few beats here and there.

Bundy: Hi, I'm Edd Bundy, and I'm an alcoholic...

Have you guys been working together for a long time?

Supreme: Yeah me and Bundy been down for like 6 years or so now, but really we didn't really do anything musically until 2010 when we started recording as Hood Kings. The only exception to that being my verse on The Risk Tape which was 2009 I believe. So yeah we been down for a minute now.

Bundy: We actually started out working together on a "text rap battle" forum that i used to be the owner of. It was pretty much luck of the draw how we came to talk to each other, any other day and Hood Kings would never have been really haha, but yeh 6 years or so give or take.

Supreme: Yeah word up, let me take this oppertunity to thank Bundy again, when we first started talking online, Bundy taught me more or less everything I now know and use when writing, and gave me constant guidance throughout my first recordings. Without Bundy's support, guidance and friendship I wouldnt be rapping today. So if you dig my music thank Bundy, and if you hate it, blame Bundy just the same haha.

Bundy: Just blame Hip Hop & the internet, cut out the middle man haha.

Do you guys now each other in person or just from the internet?

Supreme: Well, our photoshop skills aren't that sharp... Haha nah, yeah we know each other in person we're official. We cant hook up as often as we'd like because of work/family commitments and finances but we do as often as we can, thats my dude.

Bundy: As Supreme said, we hook up when we can & otherwise are talking by any means to keep up. We're dudes with lives outside of this music shit, we can't hook up every other day, it aint walkable distance haha. When we got the time & the money we make it a must to hook up, shoot some videos, make some music, and in general just chill and catch up. We aint a net crew believe that haha.

When did you guys decided to work on the first Full Metal Alchemists project?

Bundy: Well part 1 we started gathering ideas for in 2011 possibly and released in 2012. It was mainly an idea of "Yo, Alchemists beats are dope we should drop some lava on them", so behold.. FULL METAL ALCHEMISTS.

Supreme: Nah Bundys trippin, we dropped that joint at the end of May 2012 i think it was, and that project wasnt even though of until the start of April. We picked he beats out real quick which was easy since the Alchemist has dope beats for days, i think we even marked some for number 2 and then forgot them when we actually made number 2 haha. But yeah from when we had the beats picked out, the writing process was real easy and fast because like I said, Alchemist got dope beats for days, then i recorded my verses straight away, and Bundy did the same, and MoTioN came through with the mixing, it was a simplier time.

Bundy: Man.. The past is pretty much a blur, I don't remember what happened last week let alone in 2012 haha forgive me.

Do you guys record together or just seperated and bundle the verses for a track?

Supreme: I wouldnt say we bundle the verses on the track, but both. The Outro to FMA1 we recorded together at Bundys to wrap that project up. And then FMA2, I recorded all my verses at my crib, then we both hit TMB's lab for Bundy to record his verses. Majority of my stuff I'll record at mine, but more often than not we're be together when Bundy records his weather its at TMB's, mine, or where ever we can get. Its not just bundled together though, there is thought and plan that does into it.

Bundy: As I said before, its not a walkable distance between us two. Getting together to make music takes a shit load of planning and relies on us being free & having money at the same time, trust me its not easy. Ideally though we try to record in the same place and failing that at least giving each other a basis of how we want the track to sound and match each other in terms of motivation. Never have we just thrown together some recordings and thought there.. Finished.. Fuck it.

What kind of music inspired you guys to make Full Metal Alchemists 2?

Bundy: Alchemist.. the man himself. Without his beats to take advantage of, there is no FMA haha. Ask anyone though, i dont really listen to ANY music other than people im cool with or a select few more well known dudes. I tend to keep my head clear of anything that could influence my sound more than i would like it to. My influences more than anything are people who give a fuck about our music, download it, share it and dig the shit out of it... that inspired me to do this joint.

Supreme: Yeah Bundy got that, Alchemist and his constantly dope beats. Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, old school games and the Full Metal Alchemist we're big influences for me on this joint too, there's a lot of them kind of references in my verses on this joint.

Are you guys happy about the feedback people gave about the new album?

Supreme: Its been out what a week at this point, so feedback is minimal, but people seem to be enjoying it, not a huge amount of people but people none the less haha. No one has said anything bad lets put it like that.

Bundy: Definately, its early doors, anything can happen. In my honest opinion, its a mixtape so I'm not expecting to get album type of responses with dudes hanging off our nuts like 50 buck hookers. They will be if they actually listen to the lyrics! Haha but I'm not EXPECTING it to go down like that. Anyone who has listened to it more than once, shared it, and told us they liked it.. Then they get all the respect I can give.

Do you guys think there will be a Full Metal Alchemists 3 project?

Bundy: I hope so, as long as we both still have the hunger for it and the same amount of passion, we're not gonna half ass a project. I can say though right now i am most definately down for FMA3, FMA4 and anymore we can conjure up haha.

Supreme: Of course, as long as Alchemists keeps banging out dope beats, we will make FMA's. Shit, heres to hoping one is a legit project with the man himself involved with orignal beats.

Will their be another project with you two involved soon?

Supreme: Yeah man loads. We already have a mixtape and EP fully wrote ready to be recorded. And an old EP recorded in 2012 sitting around in cyber space that may, or may not get a release. Not to mention numerous other idea's. Oh, and me and my brother Seiza have an EP fully ready for release which was fully produced by my good man Bundy.

Bundy: The Supreme & Seiza ep is FIRE by the way, you have no fucking idea. In other news, I have so many projects I'm working on right now I couldn't write them all down in one interview, believe me, shit is happening behind the scenes. Its no secret I actually have over 300 written but unrecorded verses in the vault (60% or more will never be heard). As far as HK releases, Supreme mentioned all of the things we have planned so far, I will add though we owe one or two verses as HK to people and they are going to be incredible tracks. Watch this space.

What makes you guys such a good musical combination?

Bundy: We're not, we actually don't like each other. It's a front, i can't stand the dude, he's a fakerasta, pussy, failed rapper, prone to illness vegan with no talent... Of course im just fucking about here, we're a good combination because we both have respect for what each other can do and we know what each other are about, nobody tries to steal the limelight. We work on projects equally, put in an equal amount of ideas, and put a lot of effort into making sure our verses dont differ too much and are of the same level... Basically we make each other up our game.

Supreme: Because thats my motherf'in dude! Like I said we was down for a minute before we even made any music together, so even before the music we had a good solid friendship, and we are 'real life' friends, so there is actual musical chemestry, not a forced online collab. We complement each others styles and can easy bounce idea's and concepts off each other where we have similar ways of thinking, yet our styles are quite different, but it works. TMB once described us like Mobb Deep, me being the Prodigy to Bundy's Havoc, that compliment (Drunk or not) could possibily be my 'career' hightlight, peace TMB!

Bundy: Name dropping huh? Ok. Peace TMB! Haha. Also lemme shout out Seiza (who you should all watch out for this year), Ixion Form who mixed the shit out of this, MoTioN, Nico The Beast and the 30 & Over League, Just-1, the rest of my Dead Rabbits brothers, everyone I'm making music with and everyone who has peeped this project you all deserve a mention!

Thanks for the interview. I am looking forward to the next project from you guys!
